Youth Club

Ages 11-17 years

What is Youth Club?

Youth Club is a climbing class for young climbers led by one of our instructors.

Sessions are 1 hour 30 minutes long and will cover a combination of games, safety, and climbing techniques.

Each child will work through Rock Over’s Coaching Scheme for youth climbers, and get sections of their worksheet signed off. Once the worksheet is complete they will be given a certifcate signed by the instructor.

Our goals for children of this age:

  • to feel confident and excited about bouldering
  • to learn the important safety information and have good climbing ettiquette
  • to see progress as they work towards and achieve targets
  • to learn advanced climbing techniques
  • to work towards climbing unsupervised
  • to have fun!

Kids Climbing – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to stay while my child is doing their class?

It is not necessary for the adult to stay while the child is in their class. However if you do wish to stay, we have sofas and a cafe serving hot and cold drinks for you to enjoy.

How big are the classes?

Each class has a maximum of 8 children.

What if my child is under 7 years old?

We don’t offer instructor-led sessions for children under the age of 7. You can still bring your child to climb and will need to stay and supervise them yourself. Pease note the recommeded age is 5+ for them to get the most out of bouldering at our centres.

My child wants to climb unsupervised, is this allowed?

If your child is aged 14 or over they can be assessed by one of our instructors to climb without a supervisor. For this assessment the parent/guardian must be present in person. Please ask a staff member for more information on 14+ sign offs.

Do I need to book?

Even though we offer drop-in bookings, some of the classes get fully booked so please book in advance to ensure your place in the class.

My child has additional needs, what's best for them?

We are happy to take children with additional needs on our regular classes, however we do have separate sessions available if this would be more appropriate for your child. We offer climbing sessions for disabled and neurodivergent young people at our Sharston location (South Manchester). Please visit the Access Sport page for more information and bookings.
